MY HOBBIES

"We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of the dream. Wandering by lone sea breakers, and sitting by desolate streams. World losers and world forsakers, for whom the pale moon gleams. Yet we are movers and the shakers of the world forever it seems." - Arthur O'Shaunessey

"Today, music heralds... the establishment of a society of repetition in which nothing will happen anymore." -  Jacques Attali

Music has always played a part in my life ever since I was young, but I never really invested much time and effort into it (not to mention money) until the past few years. In the 90's, I always found myself fascinated by songs filled with synthesizers. Songs such as Teratai Layu di Tasik Madu by Fauziah Latiff, I swear by all 4 one, That's the way we jam by KRU

In the early 90's, when I was still in secondary  school, I was surfing the radio bands one evening, and came across a local broadcast from Radio Muzik. I instantly became infatuated with the songs coming from this station. Especially when the "Pilihan Bersama" on the air.

Techno, or electronica, music is more commonly known today than in the early 90's, but the widely known opinion of many to techno music is "I hate that music." I haven't found many people that do enjoy it purely to listen to it. I often hear people saying that it sounds repetitive or that they only listen to it when they're at clubs, or that it's only good to dance to.

And this isn't a rant to tell people to listen to it. Quite on the contrary... in fact, probably one of the very reasons why I enjoy the music as much as I do is that it isn't widely listened to or appreciated by many people. However many people mislabel the stereotype that all electronic music is simply dance hits of the club scene. Many current artists employ electronic instrument technique into their own songs. Madonna is one such example. In her last two albums, she collaborated with William Orbit, an electronica musician to put together many of the songs.

Electronica music isn't the only genre that I listen to, but it is my favorite. However my CD collection currently contains a fairly wide variety in the musical realm.

Naturally, techno and electronica became enough of an influence on me that I started dabbling in the creation of it. I did this for a small period of time when I was in my early to mid teen years, but never really continued on much with it or invested much time or effort into it. In the fall of 2000, I started to making it a casual hobby of mine again. The difference is this time around is I've invested more money into the tools I use to create it. Also, the tools are more widely available now than they were ten years ago.

I don't create music in the hopes of becoming some big musical star, although everyone can dream at certain times. In fact, I think I still have far to go before I would even classify myself as a musical artist. But what I do, I do it out of the fascination of the genre, and the moods I can create, and I do this for my own benefit. I don't mind to share my music with people who are interested in hearing it, but you won't find me publicizing it or attempting to make a quick buck off of it. It's just my own hobby, and I do it because it allows me to have a creative escape.

Below the links to my music is a variety of artists that make up my CD collection. Not all of them are techno artists. In fact, you may notice that you have some of the very same artists in your own CD collection. I listed them below, as many of them have inspired me at some point to think beyond the norm.
